Stand-Alone Summer 2017 Workshops Poetry and Picnics

Summer is a sweet time. Slow moments in the heat or in the shade. Time to read and to rest. Our family just finished reading Kenneth Graham’s The Wind in the Willows. It is a beautiful celebration of creation. It is an instructive story, too, as Mole grows wiser and braver. It is a picture of birth and childhood as Mole comes forth from his little, dark, underground house to enjoy and master the River and the Wild Wood and, even, The Wide World. Since Mole and Rat’s adventures lend themselves to dramatic play and delicious food, LECT will host monthly stand-alone workshops involving songs and scenes and food from several chapters at a time.

June 29th, 2017 Ratty’s River and Refreshments

In this workshop we will explore the first three chapters of Wind in the Willows, with a picnic, dramatic play of Mole and Rat’s meeting, mask-making, a sing-along of a Duck’s Ditty and memorization techniques for Ratty’s River Eulogy.

July 19th, 2017 Badgers and Breakfast

LECT will look at the Mole’s journey to find Mr. Badger, go on a nature hike to look for the animals in our own Wild Wood, a sing-along with the mouses’ Carol and memorization techniques of Mole’s Home Eulogy.

August 16th, 2017 Toad Hall and Tea Pots

For our final workshop, we will follow the adventures of Mr. Toad, act out the escape from prison and the recapture of Toad Hall, perform a sing-along of When the Toad Came Home, and memorization techniques for “The World Has Held Great Heroes.”
