Peter Rabbit Drama Workshop and Story Time Inspiration

Peter Rabbit Unit Study at a Glance

During the summer months, I like to plan outdoor drama workshops which incorporate a story time. One of my favorites for this activity is Beatrix Potters’ stories. They fit perfectly with outdoor romps. Just add a pair of rabbit ears and you’re ready to imagine running through a patch of spring radishes!

  1. For some glamorous dress-up fun, I love Meri Meri‘s rabbit headdress. See it here.
  2. I love things that can double for imaginative play and for the kids’ real wardrobe and, though this is a bit out of my budget, I love this bunny bonnet from Native Fable.
  3. Hand puppets by Folkmanis are an easy way to add drama to story-telling. All you have to do is slip it on your hand and you are transformed from a reader into an actor. Get Mr. Rabbit here.
  4. With classics like The Tale of Peter Rabbit it is always worthwhile to get a nice collection like this one.
  5. My Dear Noel: The Story of a Letter From Beatrix Potter by Jane Johnson is a lovely, wistful biographical picture book about the family of children that inspired Miss Potter to write her stories. Out of print but you can still get it on here. I happened to discover it at our library.
  6. Have a little book for little hands just like Beatrix wanted.
  7. I love making the story come alive with things like food or clothing that my kids can add to their daily routines–like this little blue jacket.
